Tears and Cheers Breakfast

Young 5's and Kindergarten parents, don't forget that tomorrow, September 9th is the Tears and Cheers Breakfast. If you are not familiar with the Tears and Cheers Breakfast, it is an opportunity for Young 5 and Kindergarten parents to meet each other and get acquainted.  We know that new situations, like going to school, can be exciting for parents and kids alike. After all, they’re filled with new people, new things, and new activities. Well, you’re not alone.  Let’s get together and share our tears and our cheers!

After Friday’s first whole School Meeting, SEPTEMBER 9th, let’s gather in the cafeteria for snacks, coffee, and conversation.

Every Young 5 and Kindergarten parent is invited!    Younger siblings are welcome to attend.

Back to School Time!

As summer 2016 comes to a close it is time for us to turn our thoughts back to Independence Elementary. Teacher Assignments have been mailed out and you should be receiving your information any day (if you haven't already) and we have a couple big events coming up. On Tuesday, August 30th, the New Family Orientation runs from 6:00 pm to 6:30 pm and Meet the Teacher/Back to School Night is from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm.

We will be sending out information soon about the 2016 Fun Run and an opportunity for everyone to come help the PTO clean up the front of the school. Independence counts on all of us volunteers to beautify the front flower beds and planters so we would love to have your help.

Enjoy your last week of Summer Vacation and we hope to see everyone on Tuesday night.

Winter Carnival & Silent Auction News!

We are so excited that the 2016 Winter Carnival is almost here and cannot wait for January 29th to arrive! We are going to be posting pictures and details for some of the Silent Auction baskets soon, however, first we wanted to fill you in on some details about Winter Carnival in case you weren't able to make the last PTO General Membership Meeting. We received some great feedback from last year's inaugural event and are excited for some of the changes, including a Coat Room so that everyone can shed their bulky outerwear and dive into the games! Last year's response was so overwhelming that we have decided to open up even more of the school for the Carnival so that there is more room and we have the ability to offer new games (like Minecrafted!) or improved games (like the ever popular Fish Game). If you haven't purchased your tickets yet, you can save time and money by purchasing them online:

We will also have our Silent Auction again and the response has been incredible! Baskets are beginning to fill out and we are excited that we can finally begin to share them with you. Mr. Klenow's Detroit Sports Basket is pictured here but you can view all of the Auction Items (check back often as the site will be updated frequently) on the IE PTO site:
